Keynote: Bernard Baur interviews Nathaniel Kunkel

Bernard Baur, Dir. of Biz Dev., BGO (Baur, Godwin Organization) Entertainment Network
Bernard Baur is an artist crusader and award-winning journalist. He's credited with almost 1000 published articles - over 500 of them in Music Connection magazine where he is the Review Editor, Feature Writer and A&R columnist. With over twenty years in the biz, Bernard has worked with signed and unsigned artists as a former attorney, director of business affairs and A&R executive. For many acts he has been the connection between the streets and the suites. Recently, Bernard formed BGO Entertainment Network (www.BGOEntNet.com), a Development & Production company, with famed producer Dito Godwin (No Doubt, Motley Crue, KISS, Carlton Pride, etc). BGO's mission is to "Empower Artists & Indie Labels."

Nathaniel Kunkel
As a well-renowned engineer, mixer and mastering guru, Nathaniel Kunkel is a technological innovator – and one of the few producers mixing in 6.1 surround sound. His credits include Bon Jovi, Jackson Browne, Fuel, Good Charlotte, Little Feat, Kenny Lggins, Lyle Lovett, Sting, and more. Nathaniel Kunkel has recorded James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Little Feat, Kenny Loggins, Lyle Lovett's Grammy-winning Country Album of the Year, "The Road To Ensenada," the 5.1 soundtrack for Robert Altman's "Dr. T. and the Women" , and was a Grammy nominee for engineering "Trio 2" with Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris, produced and mixed by George Massenburg.

CARLOS WARLICK (Ice Cube, 2Pac, Will Smith, Xzibit)
Carlos Warlick has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry. He is responsible for recording & mixing dozens of Gold & Platinum records, which to date exceed sales of well over 30 million albums. He started his career in 1993 at the ripe age of 19, by landing his first job as a runner at Encore Studios in Burbank, Ca. After only a few months the determined kid from Los Angeles worked his way from runner to 2nd engineer and from there, he honed his skills by assisting many of the top producers & mixers, including the likes of; Quincy Jones, L.A. & Babyface, Mick Guzauski, Dave Way, Barney Perkins, Jon Gass, & Tom Lord-Alge. After 3 years of countless 100 hour weeks, he decided he was ready to test the waters & so he entered the business as an independent freelance engineer.

JOE WARLICK (Dru Hill, Dr. Dre, Nate Dogg, & Lil Bow Wow)
Having worked with some of the biggest names in the business, JOE WARLICK has been mixing, engineering, for major record labels for over 10 years, and has been involved in much of the music you hear today. JOE has worked with DR. DRE, Kanye West, while continuing to collaborate with other up and coming artists such as ¨«THE GAME‚ of the G-Unit. His unflinching dedication to music as well as the production of the highest quality earned him respect, praise and a workload of many of the music industry‚s most successful people including Kanye West. As credit to his versatility, Joe‚s also worked with Diana Ross, The Doobie Brothers and movie soundtracks ¨«The Biker Boys‚, ¨«The Wash‚ and ¨«Like Mike‚. His devotion and enthusiasm have made him the most sought after names in the industry. Using his immense skill and natural talent, he has been heard over the airways and appeared atop the charts, and now is producing some of his own tracks solidifying his name as a top music producer.

Keith's clients include Prince, Paula Abdul, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Seal, Celine Dion, and more. Top ten hits include: "Cream," "Get Off," and "Sexy MF" by Prince, "Straight Up," "Opposites Attract," and "Cold Hearted" by Paula Abdul, "Crazy" by Seal, and many more.

MATT FORGER (Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney)
Matt Forger began his career in music mixing live sound for rock bands. He has worked in studios in LA for 25 years. Matt was an engineer on Michael Jackson's THRILLER album and continued that association for over 20 years. He has engineering and production credits on sales of over 200,000,000 albums.He has also worked on projects with, Qunicy Jones, Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, and Paul McCartney. The focus of Matt's work is the emotional content of the music. Working currently with many independent bands and singer/songwriters, Matt is looking toward the future of the music industry. It will be the songs and the emotions they communicate that determine who are the successful artists of the future.

DITO GODWIN
Clients include No Doubt, Motley Crue, Kiss and more. Formerly A&R Director for T.N.T. Records, Encino, California, Dito toured with Black Sabbath, Supertramp, Alice Cooper and other famous classic rock acts. Dito is currently producing bands all over the world and directing music videos. Dito has also worked extensively in Nashville. Dito recently partnered with Bernard Baur to form BGO Entertainment Network, an artist development and production company.

Rogers is a Producer/Mixer focused on stereo and 5.1 surround music projects based in Studio City, CA. Rogers has produced and mixed music for a wide variety of artists easily moving between genres and styles from Rock to Bluegrass, Punk to Jazz. Clients include: Marilyn Manson, Teraplane, Reeves Gabriels, Superfix(Drain STH), The Crickets(w/Eric Clapton, Emmylou Harris, John Prine, etc.), Ken Burns "Jazz", Phil Cody, Lars and the Bastards, Southern Culture on the Skids, The Hellecasters, Chuck E. Weiss, Dave Wakeling, The Uninvited, Candye Kane.

DENZIL FOSTER (producer/vocal arranger of En Vogue "Funky Divas," Club Nouveau, Madonna, Puff Daddy, Tony Toni Tone, En Vogue, FMob)
Denzil "Denny" Foster has successfully scaled the  heights of the entertainment industry as artists, producers songwriters and businessmen; began their careers eighteen years ago as members of the group Club Nouveau which scored numerous platinum singles and a platinum album. Denzil is responsible for producing, writing and developing the careers of EnVogue, Tony Toni Tone, Madonna, Regina Belle, Swing Out Sister, Assante', Jordan Hill and Timex Social Club just to name a few.  They have produced theme songs for BET's Video Soul; Warner Brothers' 'Hangin' With Mr. Cooper' and HBO's 'ROC.' These efforts have earned American Music Awards, Soul Train Music Awards, BMI Songwriter Awards, MTV Video Awards and Grammy Award nominations.

With over 20 years in the recording business, Ritch is an author and lecturer with an extensive history of teaching the intracacies of music biz management at UCLA, Musicians Institute, NYU, USC, and more. He has held key positions at Arista Records and A&M Records. Ritch publishes the Music Business Registry, which includes vital current info on A&R, Music Publishers, Music Attorneys, Film/TV Music, and Producers/Engineers.
